I just spotted this little blurb from the Capitol Records Liz Phair website: "Liz is currently working on her next album, due in stores sometime in early 2002." I'll believe it when I see it. |

08-21-01: LIZ PHAIR IN ATTENDANCE AT RADIOHEAD CONCERT IN L.A.
Liz Phair was in attendance at Radiohead's concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Wednesday, August 20th. Courtesy of SLAMM, dated August 20th, 2001: [Radiohead] touched down on the West Coast to give the last show of their U.S. tour in the beautiful, verdant Hollywood Bowl. "We probably won't be back for a few more years," the half-shaven Thom Yorke told the crowd from the stage, which was futuristic, minimal, and flooded with lights. The show had sold out in minutes (not surprising, since the band has over 1,000 websites dedicated to it). Hollywood stars -- Drew Barrymore, Liz Phair, Tommy Lee, et. al. -- paraded the backstage area. Royalty recognizes royalty. [Thanks to Troy Johnson of SLAMM for this information.] |
Despite the fact that Liz is not in the film, I would encourage you to see the film (especially if you liked Kevin Smith's previous films).
[Thanks to Kevin Smith for the film, the folks who report the news at ViewAskew for mentioning my site and the rumor (how embarrasing for me!), and Miramax for the sneak preview (so I could verify whether or not Liz was in the film before the official release date.]

08-16-01: LIZ ON VH-1

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back |
07-30-01: LIZ PHAIR IN JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK?
According to a source "on the very inside", Liz Phair will make her feature film debut in the Kevin Smith film, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. As the story goes, Liz was at the studio one day and Kevin Smith and crew grabbed her and wrote her into the script as fast as they could. Kevin Smith has previously used a Liz Phair song in his film Chasing Amy (the song being "California"). [Thanks to Erin Cashel and her source for this information.] ADDENDUM (08-18-01): Liz Phair was not in the film, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, as was rumored. However, don't let that stop you from seeing the film. |
Third Eye Blind's Stephan Jenkins Organizes Breast Cancer Benefit
(7/26/01, 6 p.m. ET) -- Third Eye Blind leader Stephan Jenkins has joined forces with Step Up, a non-profit organization that unites female professionals, to assemble for BREATHE, a breast cancer benefit concert. The show, set for October 27 at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, will feature the Deftones, Crazy Town, Liz Phair, Run-DMC, Third Eye Blind, Nikka Costa, Julia Fordham, Sugar Ray, Pete Yorn, and others. The funds are earmarked for the UCLA Breast Center and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Breast Cancer (news - web sites) Examination Center of Harlem.
Breast cancer is an issue that's near to Jenkins's heart, he told LAUNCH, "My mother is a breast cancer survivor and I had some thoughts about breast cancer and the way that it's sort of presented to the public. I think that what's not realized is this is not just a women's issue. It's a family issue and its one that has impacted me through my own mother suffering."
As to getting the all-star concert together, Jenkins told LAUNCH, "The performers are really mostly people that I know. So this has been about personal contacts rather than a mailing list. And I wrote letters to people that I know and that I've had some involvement with. It's kind of amazing how in the three years that Third Eye Blind has been running how many people we know and how many people we do have friendships with. For example, Deftones. We've known those guys for a long time, and just have a real respect for their music."

3EB, Deftones, Phair Breathe
Third Eye Blind frontman Stephan Jenkins and the Step Up Women's Network (a non-profit organization of professional women) are producing Breathe, a benefit concert for breast cancer treatment and research on October 27th at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.
Breathe, which coincides with the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, will feature performances by 3EB, Sugar Ray, Crazy Town, the Deftones, Liz Phair, Nikka Costa, Run-D.M.C. and Pete Yorn, with the proceeds going to bi-coastal breast cancer facilities: the UCLA Breast Center and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Breast Cancer Examination Center of Harlem.
"What struck me most in talking to my friends in the music community about playing Breathe, is just how many artists have connections to this disease similar to my own," said Jenkins, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor.
For ticket or event information on Breathe, call 323-549-5347.

From a highly placed source:
Liz and Brad Wood will be working together in the studio over the next few days on a possible theme song for a TV show. Something along the lines of what she did for Cursed I imagine.
It also appears that Brad won't be working on the next Liz Phair album. Seems the label [Capitol Records] is taking a more proactive approach with the record and has other ideas as far as to who will produce it.

Nelson keeps eye on Tunney in 'Cherish' pic
By Zorianna Kit
LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) will star as the male lead opposite Robin Tunney in the indie feature Cherish for writer-director Finn Taylor (Dream With the Fishes).
The project is in production in the Bay Area with Jason Priestley, Brad Hunt, Lindsey Crouse, Nora Dunn and singer Liz Phair also starring.
The story revolves around a young woman, Zoe (Tunney), who is falsely accused of a crime and is incarcerated in the electronic bracelet program, never able to move more than 57 feet from the watchful eye of an electronic modem. The only human physical contact she has over two years is with a young man (Nelson) who works for the county monitoring the bracelet and modem. Their boundaries of trust and intimacy blur as he helps Zoe find her way to freedom.
Johnny Wow, who produced Fishes, is producing Cherish through his Three Ring Circus Films. Mark Burton (The Terrorist) also is producing through his Wonderfilms. Laurie Miller, Steven Siebert, Jeff Boortz and John Sideropoulos are executive producing.
